  • New wireless headsets improve base operations

    Until recently, 5th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron (AMXS) crew chiefs performing maintenance on the ground used headsets wired into the B-52H Stratofortress to communicate with the crew inside. The wires raised a number of concerns, to include mobility and the price of replacing the wires.

    When the term “flight engineer” is heard, some may assume it’s a job that requires intense desk work, calculations, and mathematical wizardry. In reality, a flight engineer is far more than that; they also fill the role of a loadmaster, sensor operator, hoist operator and aerial gunner.
