More than 70 people turned out for an action-packed Aerobathon at the McAdoo Sports and Fitness Center here Jan. 9.

The day featured a full day of events designed to help people burn off those holiday calories.

"The aerobathon was designed to get people started on their New Years resolution," said Paul Stubbs, 5th Force Support Squadron fitness center director. "It's a combination of different types of aerobic activities. I thought we'd give it a try. It's something different to help people get started living healthy."

The day began with a spin class in the morning and the afternoon concluded with a yoga class. In between, there were classes on stepping, pilates, zumba and muscle pump.

Informational booths from the Commissary, Heath and Wellness Center, David C. Jones Youth Center and the Airman and Family Readiness Center were set up to provide education on healthy living. The first 50 people to show up even received free T-Shirts.

"We got great feedback from the customers," said Staff Sgt. Kenyata Jenkins, 5th FSS fitness program manager. "They thought it was a great idea and really enjoyed the workouts. Participants found a lot of classes they didn't know about."

Although, many people were discovering the classes for the first time, in fact, the fitness center offers a total of 18 classes spread throughout the week. In addition to the classes listed above, the fitness center offers indoor cycling, cardio dance, core training and turbo kick.

According to Stubbs, signing up for a fitness class can be a key step in keeping a new year's resolution to get or stay fit.

"It's a good idea for people to work out in a group setting because the environment gives people more motivation to do the exercises," Stubbs said.

People can also visit the fitness center on Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. for an orientation tour designed to familiarize people with equipment and exercises.
