Under the authority of the Resource Management Decision 703, the Air Force recently directed a reduction of approximately 220 filled and unfilled permanent civilian positions within Air Force Global Strike Command for fiscal years 2012-13.

Approximately 35 positions at Minot AFB are due to be affected by the civilian workforce restructuring initiative. Personnel impacted by this action will be notified within the coming weeks.

"We value the enormous contributions of our civilian teammates. However, the fiscal realities facing the Air Force today have required us to make some difficult choices," said Col. James Dawkins, 5th Bomb Wing commander. "What I want our team to know is that we will do all we can to guide them through the restructuring. Despite these challenging times though, the mission here at Minot AFB will remain - as always - a top priority."

On Nov. 3, base leadership held a town hall meeting with the base civilian workforce to discuss the impact these coming changes would have. It also served as a time for leadership to hear about issues and concerns out there.

Other initiatives which have been implemented in the command include Voluntary Separation Program options to permanent employees in select functions and career fields.

Approximately 40 individuals within the command have applied for and have been approved for separation under either the Voluntary Separation Incentive Pay or Voluntary Early Retirement Authority. They are scheduled to separate no later than Dec. 31.

Continued workforce shaping and reduction measures may be required until the Air Force meets its mandated end strength.
