Staff Sgt. John Carter has epitomized the 5th Bomb Wing commander's vision of mission ownership with focused and disciplined maintenance practices while performing surveillance inspections on the wing's $144 million munitions stockpile. As a certified munitions inspector his job is to determine identity, serviceability, reliability and identify potential hazards which could cause harm to personnel and/or equipment. For the month of June, Carter clearly demonstrated mission commitment as he completed 19 munitions inspections on 5,803 munitions items worth $347,853. His meticulous work ethic ensured unserviceable munitions were safe for shipment and that only safe, reliable munitions were issued to numerous wing agencies. Furthermore, Carter's inspection knowledge and strict maintenance discipline was instrumental in assisting the senior munitions inspector in the training of two upcoming inspectors. Finally, Carter's experience played a pivotal role in the inspection of explosive water gel when the K-9 scent training aids were discovered to be leaking the explosive substance. Using technical guidance, he promptly remedied the situation, rendering the explosives safe for transportation. Carter clearly embodies the 5th Bomb Wing and 91st Missile Wing missions by providing safe and reliable munitions to all agencies and embracing the "Own It" mindset.
