Minot Airmen receive Air Force Combat Action Medal
MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Col. Douglas Cox, 5th Bomb Wing Commander, presents Tech. Sgt. John A. Marshall, 5th Medical Operations Squadron personnel reliability program flight management noncommissioned officer-in-charge, with the Air Force Combat Action Medal here Jan 6. Sergeant Marshall received the medal when he was deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan, attached to a NATO combat battalion as the only medic where he engaged hostile enemy forces and helped to treat wounded troops as well as returned fire. The principal eligibility criterion to receive the medal is that the individual must have been under direct and hostile fire while operating in unsecured space (outside the defended perimeter), or physically engaging hostile forces with direct and lethal fire.
