On Wednesday, June 29, Minot Air Force Base’s Top 3 association organized a retreat ceremony with the 16-E Airman Leadership School graduating class and a Minot Girl Scouts troop.

The Top 3 association is made up of senior non-commissioned officers from the base, and they take part in many different things around base.

“The Top 3 takes turns sponsoring the ALS distinguished graduate awards each class, we run the promotion release parties for master sergeant and senior master sergeant, and we sponsor professional development opportunities,” said Master Sgt. Jessica Mueller, 5th Maintenance Group superintendent and Top 3 Treasurer. “We also sponsor the Airman’s Attic, which provides thousands of items every month to families across base. We also provide enlisted council representatives to the other private organizations on base so that we can help network and provide assistance in any way we can.”

Mueller decided to join the Top 3 so she could help the association give back to the base and help with the future leaders of the Air Force.

“I got involved to stay active and involved with activities that are happening across the base,” Mueller said. “We sponsor a lot of programs for Team Minot, and it’s a great way to give back and help develop the next generation of Airmen.”

The Top 3 helped come up with the idea of the retreat ceremony to help carve out the next generation of leaders in the Air Force.

“The idea was brainstormed by our Top 3 Secretary Senior Master Sgt. Anthony Anderson and the Outreach Committee Co-Chair Master Sgt. Kevin Brown,” Mueller said. “They were inspired to get the enlisted tiers together and render a proper retreat ceremony to honor our nation’s flag.”

Inviting the ALS Class and the Girl Scouts troop gave both groups a chance to see just exactly what they are defending in the Air Force, or in the Girl Scouts’ cases, what their parents defend.

“This is a great way to show our newest leaders that we, as NCOs and SNCOs, should be leading from the front,” Mueller said. “The Girl Scouts that participated are all dependents of military members stationed at Minot. Partnering up gave them a chance to witness a formal retreat ceremony as well as giving them an opportunity to properly dispose of unserviceable U.S. flags.”

Mueller wants to make sure the base knows the Top 3 is here for the Airmen.

“The primary message that Minot’s Top 3 wants everyone to know is we are interested on capitalizing on the knowledge held by our members,” Mueller said. “Senior NCOs are involved in all facets of daily operations at Minot. Through the cross-flow of information in our organization, we can ensure all of Minot’s Airmen are afforded quality development opportunities and are aware of how changes in our force are affecting them and, most importantly, understand how our Airmen impact the Air Force’s mission.”
