Parts are removed, disassembled, inspected and repaired or replaced as necessary and reassembled. This inspection is known as a phase inspection and takes place at the base's Phase Dock. The B-52 is a complex aircraft and inspections are completed by distinct teams of Airmen from the 5th Maintenance Squadron, who each ensure the dependability of the aircraft parts.
