Congratulations to Master Sgt. Derrick Rutherford, 5th Medical Group primary care flight chief, for earning the 5th Bomb Wing’s Unsung Hero Award. Rutherford oversees six elements encompassing 34 military and 14 civilian medical technicians. A medical technician himself, he specializes in ambulance Services, ensuring critical medical transportation services for Minot AFB personnel to Trinity Hospital. Recently, during an on-base cardiac emergency response, he coached two junior medics on lifesaving techniques with successful transportation of patient to Trinity Hospital for follow-up care. Rutherford's behind the scenes time and attention mentoring and training the Air Force’s newest medics epitomizes the model for the Unsung Hero Award.
