5th MXS outscores 5th SFS Charlie Flight in finale Published Sept. 18, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Andrew Crawford Minot Air Force Base Public Affairs MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- In a softball game filled with multiple high scoring innings, the 5th Maintenance Squadron soared to a win over the 5th Security Forces Squadron Charlie Flight, 24-18, Sept. 12, at the Minot Air Force Base baseball field. Leading the 5th MXS was shortstop Wladimir Sierra who scored three times and pounded a two-run homer during the sixth inning, elevating his team into double digits. Left fielder Miles Sauer also aided the effort, going five for five and scoring each time. "A lot of hard work went into this win--great defense and we hit the ball hard every time at the plate," said Miles Sauer, who is also the head coach of 5th MXS. "Both teams hit the ball really hard--it was a great game." Trying to repeat as back-to-back champions was the 5th SFS Charlie Flight who made it close with innings of seven and three runs to begin the game. The team batted through the lineup in the second inning where they scored seven runs batted in on seven hits. "We hit the ball today, but they hit it better--it was a good game," said Charlie Flight head coach Gary Lambert. With the win, the 5th MXS will keep the trophy until next year's intramural season, which will begin in July and run through September.
