The 5th Bomb Wing Office of the Staff Judge Advocate stood above the five other legal offices within Air Force Global Strike when they received the title of Legal Office of the Year.

From September of 2012 to August of this year, the legal team here at Minot AFB displayed outstanding efforts in not only their office and division accomplishments, but for their leadership and professional development, and their innovation and outreach to both the bomb wing and 91st Missile Wing

The legal office commander, Lt. Col Robert Booth, explained how his staff's hard work pushed their office from good to great.

"I am extremely proud of the men and women of the 5th Bomb Wing legal office," said Booth. "The AFGSC Legal office of the Year award is a validation that they are a truly outstanding team."

Capt. John Kalis, the chief of adverse actions at the Minot AFB legal office, explained how the award reflects on the operations of the entire office and his pride for the entire staff.

"We are being recognized for excellence for everything we do," explained Kalis.

There are two main fronts to the legal office's everyday mission - civil law and military justice. Aside from providing legal assistance, such as drafting wills, debt and divorce inquiries, and even notaries, the majority of their efforts go toward promoting good order and discipline through military justice.

"In any base legal office, military justice is the priority," said Kalis. "We take a lot of pride in military justice and processing it quickly and efficiently."

The key to continuing their success is timing and communication, said Master Sgt. Tynisa Haskins, paralegal, legal office.

"We are conduits for the commanders who enforce the rules," said Haskins. "We are also an aid to the commanders in eliminating and reducing bumps in the road on the way to mission completion."

The endless effort and hard work is apparent throughout the entire legal team staff, said Haskins. From the attorneys to the paralegals, to the civilians who serve alongside the Airmen, their dedication and determination stands out across Global Strike.

"We get things turned around quickly and accurately," said Kalis. "We don't cut corners, and we maintain our efficiency. That kind of efficiency doesn't happen unless people are dedicated."
