5th Bomb Wing delivers excellence

MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. --  Minot Air Force Base's 5th Bomb Wing demonstrated excellence during a Nuclear Operational Readiness Inspection, according to Air Force Global Strike Commander Inspector General, Col. Douglas Cox, who provided the results during an out brief at the base theater, Nov. 6.

NORIs are extremely detailed and require a high standard of dedication and hard work. Throughout the 10-day inspection, Airmen of the 5th BW were constantly under the microscope of the IG team. Airmen were assessed on their mission capability during continuous observations and evaluations.

The atmosphere was tense in the base theater as the Airmen awaited the results of the NORI. Whenever the IG emcee announced a category rating, Airmen erupted in applause, as not one category received less than a satisfactory rating.

Airmen of the 5th BW demonstrated excellence and mission readiness, making it evident that the wing is safe, secure and effective, said Cox.

In an address to 5th BW Airmen, Col. Alex Mezynski, 5th BW commander, expressed his appreciation for the hard work put forth throughout the inspection.

The commander went on to point out that anytime there are inspectors constantly observing operations for a large amount of time, they will find some room for improvement. However, having something to improve on will ultimately benefit the wing.

"We'll address those discrepancies and we'll be a better wing because of it," said Mezynski. "We did a great job overall."

Mezynski went on to discuss that the IG team recognized 141 individuals who went above and beyond the call of duty, ultimately playing a significant part in the success of the inspection. Despite important individual roles, the success of the inspection is credited to the entire wing, Mezynski added.

"That's a huge number, but it only represents a fraction of the excellence we see on display throughout the entire inspection," said Mezynski. "It was a team effort to get this rating, so you should all be proud of this accomplishment."

The commander ended by thanking the Airmen for their hard work, not only during the inspection, but during all the exercises leading up to the NORI and on a day-to-day basis.

"Congratulations on an excellent overall inspection," said Mezynski. "We're going to keep this momentum going."
