Minot's Got Talent: Base hosts first show Published Dec. 10, 2013 By Senior Airman Kristoffer Kaubisch Minot Air Force Base Public Affairs MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Do you think you have an amazing or unique talent? If you do, then come show it off at the first ever Minot's Got Talent show at Minot Air Force Base. The talent show is free to participants and viewers. It will be held at the base theater on Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. Anyone that is 18 years of age or older is allowed to participate in the Talent Show. Staff Sgt. Kenneth Johnson, 5th Force Support Squadron, fitness assessment cell noncommissioned officer in charge, came up with the idea for the talent show and is looking forward to hosting it. "I've done it in the past, during deployments," said Johnson. "They are very good for morale and good to bring people together." This free event offers everyone an opportunity to have something to do while staying in from the cold weather, whether they are participate or just coming to watch the talent, said Johnson. "The cold weather pushed me to want to provide something that people can come to and enjoy themselves," said Johnson. "It doesn't cost anything; it's low maintenance, and it's easy to get to." People are welcome to volunteer to help out 5th FSS. So far, more than 20 volunteers have signed up to help, said Johnson. Volunteers will be doing several things from stage management to stage crew as well as getting the different props contestants need, on or backstage. Volunteers will also make sure the members are ready for their performances in advance. Volunteers will also be at the front of the theater as greeters and can help with questions that are asked, as well as hand out prizes to the members in the audience. That's right! Audience members have the opportunity to get prizes as well, not just the talent show performers. Trophies and other prizes will be awarded to the winner or winners and audiences members throughout the show. Depending on how this first talent show goes, the 5th FSS will continue this event for many years to come, said Johnson. Some have already requested this event be hosted again in the future, during the summer months. "We don't really have a specific spot or member who coordinates these types of events in the 5th FSS," said Johnson. "Right now, a lot of the events that FSS holds are hosted by different facilities or members of FSS coming together to put these events on." The 5th FSS does whatever they can to provide events for the base community, said Johnson. "I wanted to host something that the base could enjoy for free," said Johnson. "I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes. I wanted to try it out and provide some sort of positive aspect to things, so that way people have something to do or look forward to." Everyone is encouraged to come on out and enjoy this family event and see what kind of talent Minot AFB has to offer. For volunteer opportunities for Minot's Got Talent, contact Staff Sgt.
