Minot Air Force Base's 5th Bomb Wing demonstrated excellence during a Nuclear Surety Inspection, according to Air Force Global Strike Commander Inspector General, Col. Douglas Cox, who provided the results during an out brief at the base theater, Jan. 29.

NSIs are extremely detailed and require a high standard of dedication and hard work. Throughout the inspection, Airmen of the 5th BW were constantly under the microscope of the IG team. Airmen were assessed on their mission capability during continuous observations and evaluations.

The atmosphere was tense in the base theater as the Airmen awaited the results of the NSI. Whenever the IG emcee announced a category rating, Airmen erupted in applause, as nearly all categories announced received a rating of excellent and not one received less than a satisfactory rating. Out of the 14 graded areas, the Warbirds earned two "Outstanding" and 10 "Excellent" ratings.

Airmen of the 5th BW demonstrated excellence and mission readiness, making it evident that the wing is safe, secure and effective, said Cox.

In an address to 5th BW Airmen, Col. Alex Mezynski, 5th BW commander, expressed his appreciation for the hard work put forth throughout the inspection.

"We are part of an excellent team here at Minot, so it comes as no surprise that we were able to do such an outstanding job showcasing the strengths of our Airmen during the recent Nuclear Surety Inspection," said Mezynski.

One of the benefits of inspections is identifying areas of improvement, said the commander. Every finding offers an opportunity to enhance the wing and improve the mission.

"Our Airmen's outstanding preparation and execution made the inspectors have to truly dig to find areas to improve--we'll address those areas and ultimately be a better wing for it," said Mezynski. "Our Airmen did a fantastic job overall."

The IG team recognized a number of individuals who went above and beyond the call of duty, playing a significant part in the success of the inspection. Despite important individual roles, the success of the inspection is credited to the entire wing, Mezynski added.

"I am very proud of the wing's accomplishments during the inspection," said Mezynski. "I have no doubt that the men and women of the 5th Bomb Wing will continue their tradition of excellence."
