Own it Award: Surface Freight Section Published April 29, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Sahara L. Fales Minot Air Force Base Public Affairs MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Surface Freight Section, 5th Logistics Readiness Squadron, 5th Mission Support Group, has epitomized the 5 BW/CC's vision of mission ownership. This 3-person team collectively executed the surface movement of all cargo going to Ellsworth AFB, SD in support of the runway closure, ensuring minimal downtime for the 5 BW B-52 mission. Their scheduling, planning, teamwork, and persistence led to 29 flatbed trailers being loaded in less than three weeks, surpassing the original timeline by over three weeks. They orchestrated the movement of 119 aircraft maintenance assets weighing over 541,000 pounds without incident. This included one truck with 41 classified pieces, eight specialized trucks with over-dimensional assets, and 16 trucks with 31 hazardous material assets; all of which require continuous and assertive coordination as we compete with the oil market for commercial transportation services. The Surface Freight Section displayed their professionalism and dedication to "Owning It" during this time. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Sahara L. Fales)
