Sesame Street and the United Service Organizations (USO) are bringing the furry, fuzzy and friendly Muppets to Minot AFB.

Show times are Monday, June 16 and Tuesday, June 17, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., two shows each day, at the base theater.

This show features Elmo and his friends Rosita, Cookie Monster, Grover, and their new friend Katie, a military kid who is moving to a new place. The tour is part of Sesame Street's Talk, Listen, Connect initiative for military families.

The show aims to help families deal with the challenges of deployment and the moves that military families often need to make.

The Sesame Street/USO tour began in 2008, and is now the longest-running entertainment tour in USO history, and the first-ever traveling USO tour designed specifically for military families. In addition to bases in the United States, it also travels to overseas military installations.

The program is based on this understanding: When a parent is deployed, the entire family is deployed. And when a parent comes home and must adjust to change, the entire family is adjusting, too. Many kids come to the show with their on-duty parent, but that parent may be shipping back out for another deployment in the near future.

The USO and Sesame Street have also partnered on a resource kit for military kids and parents called "Talk, Listen, Connect: Deployments, Homecomings, Changes." The title says it all. With simple DVDs for preschool kids and resources for parents, the kits are handed out at the show, extending support from Elmo and company well beyond show time.

The show is free admission for military families and their children, as well as a mini show and giveaways. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to the performance. For tour information, visit www.sesamestreet.org/TLC and www.uso.org.
