Morning lap swim's hours to become permanent Published April 27, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Christian Sullivan 5BW/PA MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- The morning lap swim that is held at the McAdoo Fitness center, will be expanding from its original hours to a permanent time of 6-8 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays along with the normal times of 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The previous hours were a trial run to see if there would be enough attendance to keep the pool open in the morning. Since the trial went well the hours are being extended and the morning lap swim will become permanent on Minot AFB. "These programs are here for our military members and their families," said Alicia Thornton-Murray, the 5th Force Support Squadron community services flight chief. "The reason why we were able to expand the hours is because of comments that our customers told us." The morning lap swim is open to all members of Minot AFB who want a different workout for their bodies. "It provides another outlet for people to work out, have fun and take the stress off from work," said Dustin Johns, the 5th FSS director of outdoor recreation. "It's something different than the normal gym." Swimming is a quality workout for people who desire an exercise that has low-impact on their body, Johns said. It helps people who aren't as mobile get the exercise they need, such as wounded warriors or someone going through rehab, Johns said. The pool also offers an open swim on Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. and the 100 mile swim club where a participant who logs 100 miles will have their name put on the wall. Another prize Johns wants to give for the 100 mile club is a challenge coin.
