Minot Events Offer Appreciation Day for Military Members Published June 9, 2015 By A1C Christian Sullivan Minot Air Force Base Public Affairs June 9, 2015 -- Free and discounted military appreciation events throughout the summer of 2015 are scheduled for the city of Minot for all military members and their families. Events such as Military Day at the Magic City Ribfest at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds, Military Appreciation Day at the Roosevelt Park Zoo and Military Appreciation Day at the North Dakota State Fair. The first military day offered in Minot is at the Magic City Ribfest held at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds, June 19, 2015. For the first-ever event, highlights will include some of the country's best BBQ grillers, entertainment and static displays. Tom Ross, manager for Magic City Ribfest, said Military Appreciation Day at Ribfest consists of free admission and parking from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a special discount for military personnel on meals. Another place in Minot offering a special day for military members is the Minot Roosevelt Park Zoo. Staci Kenney, Minot Zoo Crew event coordinator, said that there will be many events going on throughout the day such as giraffe feeding and animal training demonstrations. In addition to opening the zoo for military members and their families, they are also offering free swimming in the Roosevelt Park pool. Military Appreciation Day at the Minot Zoo is June 26, 2015. The last Military Appreciation event held this summer is at the North Dakota State Fair held in Minot. "On military day, there's a free lunch for military members from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and free carnival rides from 1-3 p.m.," said Layne Pflinger, an intern for the North Dakota State Fair, about Military Appreciation Day at the State Fair on July 21, 2015. These are just a few events the city of Minot offers to its military members.
