PRESS RELEASE: Minot AFB Airmen to compete in Air Force Global Strike Command's Global Strike Challenge

Airmen from the 5th Bomb Wing and 91st Missile Wing are competing in the 5th annual Global Strike Challenge beginning Thursday.

Global Strike Challenge is the world's premier bomber, intercontinental ballistic missile, helicopter and security forces competition.

It is a head-to-head competition across Air Force Global Strike Command's Bomber and Missile wings. Teams include missile, bomber, helicopter crews, Security Forces and maintenance teams in Air Force Global Strike Command, as well as participants from Air Combat Command, Air Force Materiel Command, Air Force Reserve Command and the Air National Guard.

Global Strike Challenge is designed to enhance readiness, teamwork, esprit de corps, mission pride and a competitive spirit. It combines operations, maintenance and security forces participants from both the missile and bomber communities performing the Air Force's global strike mission.

Air Force Global Strike Command wings participating in the competition are the 2d Bomb Wing, Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, 5th Bomb Wing, Minot AFB, North Dakota, 509th Bomb Wing, Whiteman AFB, Missouri, 90th Missile Wing, F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming, 91st Missile Wing, Minot AFB, North Dakota, and the 341st Missile Wing, Malmstrom AFB, Montana.

Up for grabs at the competition are the Fairchild and Blanchard Trophies, awarded to the best bomb wing since 1951 and the best missile wing since 1967 respectively. Team and individual competition trophies are also awarded. The 5th Bomb Wing won the first place Innovation Trophy and the 91st Missile Wing won 12 awards, to include the Blanchard Trophy for best missile wing last year.
