The Dakota Inn dining facility is currently under construction at Minot Air Force Base, N.D.

The facility has been under construction since June 15, 2015 and is scheduled to open again in December.

Dan Hawley, 5th Force Support Squadron deputy director, said there are many new things Airmen have to look forward to at the new and improved DFAC.

New features include new flooring, painting and larger seating areas.

For now, Airmen have many options to choose from for places to eat while the DFAC is being renovated: the Jimmy Doolittle Center, Rocker's Bar and Grill, Kelley's Place, Rough Riders and the food court at the Base Exchange.

Hawley pointed out that Airmen have a plethora of other things to look forward to in the updated Dakota Inn.

"First and foremost, the DFAC will be open to not only the Airmen but to families and civilians assigned to Minot Air Force Base," Hawley said. "Secondly, the customers can look forward to a more enjoyable dining experience by not only seeing an improved and expanded seating area, they will also see an improved main line with new offers such as a smoothie station, wrap station, global grill, pizza as well as a larger soup and salad bar."

Hawley also sees the improvements to the DFAC helping with morale.

"The improvements being made to the dining facility will increase the Airmen's morale," Hawley said. "With all the new stations; meal hour extensions and, most importantly, they will be able to share the experience with their families and co-workers throughout the year."

Senior Master Sgt. Don Slayton, 5th Force Support Squadron sustainment services flight superintendent said that the construction is due to the Air Force food transformation initiative.

"The FTI will revamp the dining facility menu to introduce healthier food stations, expand dining options and ultimately give Minot Airmen more energy to accomplish the mission," Slayton said.
