In Her Shoes Published Oct. 8, 2015 By Senior Airman Kristoffer Kaubisch Minot Air Force Base Public Affairs MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- The Family Advocacy program is hosting an interactive activity during the month of October; October is domestic violence awareness month. "In her shoes is a nationally acclaimed program that we are going to do and share," said Sherri McKittrick, FAP team member. "This is an interactive activity where we set up different areas and people will go through the emotions that a woman would go through that has been in a relationship and has been battered for years. This activity will help you understand what it is like from their shoes and going through the emotions and how difficult it is to leave a relationship. "A lot of people say "why don't they just leave?" It's not as easy as it looks, McKittrick said. "This program takes them through it and helps them better understand why it is so difficult to leave an abusive relationship." Since this is a nationally acclaimed program, the FAP wants to share it with Minot Air Force Base. The FAP received kits and everything they need from the head agency to share this program with Team Minot. "This is a program where we bring everything with us to the squadrons," said Laurel Grams, Family Advocacy outreach program manager. "With this program, people get a chance to gain some insight as to what it's like to be a battered victim, perspectives and the way you think; everything is different if you have been a victim of domestic violence." If anyone would like to sign up for this program, a minimum of 12 people is required or a maximum of 40 people and is approximately one hour long. Start signing up now for October by calling Family Advocacy at 723-5096.
