Digital predators Published Nov. 4, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Christian Sullivan Minot Air Force Base Public Affairs MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- The cyber world can have many online dangers and threats that can become real life problems if people aren't careful and take precautions. Laurel Grams, Family Advocacy outreach program manager, has put together a training workshop to prevent such unfortunate events from happening. "It's a workshop for talking about dating dangers," Grams said. "It also talks about if you find yourself in areas that are complicated, that you struggle with or you don't know how to handle." Grams said that this workshop can relate to anyone who goes on the internet and is easily understandable. "We talk about these things in a particular presentation," Grams said. "It's a power point presentation, but it's filled with videos and some other clips. It's a fast paced, edgy workshop that we are going to be offering." Grams said that they are offering leadership first hand looks at the presentation to help them understand it more for their Airmen. "We have been going around to first sergeants, commanders and leadership giving them tickets to come and see this presentation because it has not been seen by anyone yet," Grams said. "We think leadership needs to know some of these things that are going on in the technological area, because sometimes they don't." The workshop was highlighted in October due to the fact that it is domestic violence awareness and prevention month. "We are specifically highlighting it for the month of October," Grams said. "It's domestic violence awareness and prevention month, so it's a big month for us." For leadership that wants their shop or squadron to learn more about these cyber dangers, Grams said she can schedule it for them. "They can just schedule us and we will come in for about an hour to give the workshop," Grams said. "We just have to have a place where they have power point accessibility and we can get up there and take care of their troops." In the future, Grams said they plan on making a different version of the workshop for a younger audience. "We are going to do a teen version," Grams said. "What we have up and ready to roll right now is the version for adults, we are going to tailor it for teens and offer it sometime this fall." To schedule an educational workshop, call 723-5096.
