Housing Parking: The Winter Months Published Jan. 25, 2016 By Staff Sgt. Alexander Northrup 5th Security Forces Squadron Police Services MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- With the winter season in full swing, the 5th Security Forces Squadron reminds everyone that parking in base housing is limited and must be regulated for safety. Proper parking helps everyone by ensuring the flow of traffic remains unimpeded and snow management is possible. Vehicles parked on the side of the road increase the challenge associated with snow management and the risk associated with traveling on snowy or icy roads. Vehicles parked on the street improperly can inhibit visibility, lessen travel space and in certain cases, block the entire roadway. It is important to keep in mind that traffic in housing is not only limited to small personal vehicles but also includes other sized vehicles such as snow control machinery, school buses and large moving vehicles. In order to ensure the smooth flow of traffic the following parking regulations have been established and need to be followed: - Housing Parking. Parking on roadways or streets in the housing area is authorized only on the odd-numbered housing side of the street (example: 123, 125, 127 Winding Way). The apartment numbers will not be used to determine the even or odd side of the street. - Snow Removal. Do not park in a place or manner that inhibits effective snow removal operations. - Traffic Control Devices. Vehicles will not be parked within 15 feet of any stop sign, yield sign or any other such marking on the pavement. Ensuring the safety of all travelers is our main objective, however, it takes the entire community to make it happen.
