David Cook Rocks Minot Published June 13, 2016 By Airman 1st Class J.T. Armstrong Public Affairs MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- David Cook, the 2008 American Idol winner, and his band performed at the Jimmy Doolittle Center at Minot Air Force Base, N.D., May 30, 2016. The group was wrapping up its tour of eight bases this spring which included: McConnell AFB, Kansas; Vance AFB, Oklahoma; Altus AFB, Oklahoma; Laughlin AFB, Texas; Fairchild AFB, Washington; Malmstrom AFB, Montana; Minot AFB and Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota. Cook and his band performed for hundreds of Team Minot service members and their families on Memorial Day in honor of fallen service members. "What an honor it has been to perform at military bases around the world," said Cook. "We get to entertain and say a little extra 'thank you' on Memorial Day." The Nashville singer and songwriter performed tracks from his most recent album and popular songs by Michael Jackson and Led Zeppelin. Cook said he couldn't emphasize enough what an honor it was and how thankful he was to all of our troops at home and overseas. "I have family in the military, so I understand some of the struggle," said Cook. "The least we can do is come out and make a little noise." Cook also had advice for Airmen or anyone looking to pursue their goals. "They say it takes 10,000 hours to get really good at something, and I spent 10 years trying to get my foot in the door," said Cook. "So when the opportunity presented itself (American Idol), I was receptive of it, even though it wasn't originally a part of my plan."
