91st SFG opens new vehicle facility Published Aug. 21, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Wesley Wright Minot Air Force Base Public Affairs MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- The 91st Security Forces Group opened a new vehicle facility during a ribbon cutting ceremony here Aug. 17. The $7.8 million security forces vehicle facility, dubbed "The Defender Dome" by Col. Marty Whelan, 91st Space Wing commander, provides protected parking for vehicles, three enclosed wash bays, equipment storage, dispatch operations, support offices and a training room. "It's a great accomplishment," Col. Whelan said. "We are making sure our men and women have the latest and greatest - everything they need to accomplish our mission. This is a great day for Team Minot." The enclosed parking area encompasses 57,340 square feet capable of storing 114 vehicles. The support structure is 3,300 square feet, containing the combined 91st Security Forces Group vehicle dispatch office and transportation control center; along with the 5th Security Forces Squadron vehicle dispatch office; maintaining 24-hour support to 1,100 security forces members in two separate wings. "In my 23 years of being a cop, this is the first brand new facility I've been in," said. Col. Myron Freeman, 91st Security Forces Group commander. "So, this really is a special facility."
