April 4 is National Alcohol Screening Day Published April 2, 2008 By Airman 1st Class Benjamin Stratton Minot Air Force Base Public Affairs MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- National Alcohol Screening Day, hosted by the 5th Medical Group Mental Health Clinic here, is scheduled for April 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the base exchange here. "NASD aims to inform people about at-risk drinking, alcohol's affect on health and the signs and symptoms of alcohol problems," said Capt. Kim Floyd, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Training program manager for the 5th MDG. The program is only available to the base population, such as active duty members and their dependents, retirees and on-base civilian contractors. The goals of the program are to increase awareness of personal, family and co-worker substance use. NASD provides education about alcohol abuse and information on the resources available on base and in the local community for help and prevention, said Capt. Floyd. "The alcohol self-assessment is a valuable exercise that can help prevent unhealthy habits before they start," said Airman 1st Class Jessica Delgado, ADAPT Technician for the 5th MDG. "It can also help to identify a need for intervention with individuals displaying an early pattern of alcohol misuse." The assessment will be conducted anonymously for all participants, Delgado said. If you are on the Personnel Reliability Program you must report any Potentially Disqualifying Information to your certifying official, she added. Those interested in coming to the event at the BX will have the opportunity to fill out a questionnaire, as well as receive feedback with personalized recommendations for further education based on answers provided on the questionnaire. There will be additional information dealing with underage drinking and family member alcohol overuse. If you are unavailable to attend April 4, all information provided can be found in the 5th MDG main atrium for the month of April. "We appreciate your participation in National Alcohol Screening Day and hope that the educational opportunity presented here will be of help to you and your family," said Capt. Floyd.
