The 5th Operations Support Squadron enjoyed a day in the sun Aug. 15 at Bud Ebert Park with a squadron sports day (enlisted versus officer) and picnic here.

"It was a chance for the unit to get out," said Master Sgt. Ronald Tolzin, 5th OSS first sergeant. "It was a nice time to relax from all our hard work and the successes we've had over the past year."

During the day, squadron members participated in many games including: flag football, a half-mile relay, horseshoes, Frisbee golf, a three-legged race, dizzy bat contest, tug-of-war and dunking booth just to name a few. A bouncing castle was available for kids (at heart) and rumor has it there may have been a Ultimate Fighting Chamiponship bouncing bash contest to add to the friendly officer versus enlisted competition.

"Planning the event was easy," said 1st Lt. Patricia Marshall, 5th OSS chief of operations and intelligence. "Everyone in the squadron stepped up their 'A' game and volunteered to make today happen."

Sergeant Tolzin was nominated the grill master and prepared quite a selection for the squadron. Grilled meats included: hamburgers, hotdogs, bratwursts, briskets and his homemade family recipe grilled chicken.

The group said they had an ecstatic time and the enlisted Airmen were especially rallied when they defeated the officers in their competition.

"The dunk booth was filled with the tears of the officers after they lost to the enlisted," said Airman Ryan Power, 5th OSS targets intelligence analyst.

"It was really nice getting out of the office and joining my coworkers in games and activities on the field," said Airman Mike Anzelone, 5th OSS aviation resource manager. "The food was great and the weather couldn't have been better."

It just goes to show how working hard and playing hard together helps build a solid foundation for a team to build on.

"Like most squadrons on base, it's been a tough year for the 5th OSS in the work environment," said Lt. Col. Max Mitchell, 5th OSS commander. "It's great that we can take a day like this to have some friendly competition, share stories and eat good food. When else do our enlisted warriors get a chance to beat up on the officers and have a good time doing it?"
