Auto insurance a must Published Oct. 1, 2008 By Mark Mittelstadt 5th Security Forces Squadron MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- All drivers on Minot AFB are required have motor vehicle liability insurance. Driving a vehicle without liability insurance violates base regulations and North Dakota law. Base entry controllers may ask drivers to provide proof of liability insurance at any time. Drivers failing to produce proof of insurance will be cited, must remove their vehicle from the installation and notify their commander or first sergeant. Additionally, the 5th Mission Support Group commander may revoke an offender's base driving privileges for a one-year period. Failing to provide proof of liability insurance to a North Dakota officer may result in arrest and a $300 promise-to-appear bond and up to $250 in fines and fees. Base driving privileges may also be revoked for one year as a result. It is important for base drivers to remember their insurance policy must be in effect prior to the accident or citation; getting insurance after the fact is too late. Gamble too often and eventually you'll lose. Insurance may cost a bit, but it's a lot cheaper than the consequences of getting caught driving without it.
