The 5th Security Forces Squadron would like to inform the base populace on the recent changes to Minot's Installation Pet Control Procedures, 31-203, which became effective Nov 1.

The biggest change to the instruction is the inclusion of a prohibited breeds list, which bans identified breeds from base housing here. Banned breeds include Pit Bulls, American Staffordshire Bull Terriers, English Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Rottweilers (full or mixed breed), or any other breed with dominant traits geared towards aggression.

Existing residents with these types of dogs registered with the base veterinary services prior to Nov. 1 may continue to keep them on base until departure from the installation. The "grand-fathered" owners may not breed or acquire more of these types of dogs. Additionally, these "grand-fathered" pets will be banned from base if they escape, threaten or bite without having been provoked (i.e., attempted to agitate, pet, handle and/or enter the animal's yard etc).

Additional changes include the requirement for owners to microchip their pets or update the addresses of current microchiped pets within 14 days of purchase or arrival to Minot AFB, the inclusion of caged pets in dormitories, and the requirement for owners to have their pet examined by a licensed veterinarian (or U.S. Army Animal Technician when assigned) within 24 hours of any pet bite or scratch.
