2008 CFC goes out with a bang Published Dec. 2, 2008 By Airman 1st Class Benjamin Stratton Minot Air Force Base Public Affairs MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Team Minot's annual Combined Federal Campaign began Oct. 10 and ended Nov. 21 after an extraordinary drive for the year. Established in 1961, the CFC is the largest workplace charity campaign in the country and the only campaign authorized to solicit and collect contributions from federal employees in the workplace. This annual fall fundraising drive allows nearly 4 million federal employees and service members to contribute to thousands of local and national non-profit organizations. This year's CFC goal for Minot was $118,000. That goal was exceeded by over $9,000 as of 12:00 p.m. Nov. 21, thus showing how committed Team Minot is in support of humanitarian causes on a worldwide scale. "The CFC is one huge opportunity for all federal employees to make a difference in someone's life," said 1st Lt. Aubrie Jones, 5th Force Support Squadron sustainment service flight commander and 5th Bomb Wing CFC point of contact. "For the most part, people are really excited to donate to the CFC, because there are numerous local organizations they can choose from to support the local community. This gives them a chance to see their donations in action." "I am unbelievably proud of the men and women of the 5th Bomb Wing," said Col. Joel Westa, 5th Bomb Wing commander. "We have exceeded our campaign goal and this success is typical of the giving folks here at Minot AFB. Thanks to all of you for your generosity!" As a result of such good will by Warbirds and Rough Riders alike, Minot AFB is the largest contributor in the local area, Lieutenant Jones added. Last year over $26,000 came back to the local community from the Minot AFB contributions. The theme of this year's CFC campaign was, "Be a hero in someone's life." Minot AFB is no stranger when it comes to heroic feats. "No matter how busy we were over the past year, Minot AFB stepped up and we all were heroes," said Lieutenant Jones. "The successes we've had would not have been possible without all the generous folks here."
