Minot mourns death of officer

An officer from the 91st Operations Support Squadron here died Friday, Jan. 30 in Minot, N.D. The body of Capt. Jonathan Bayless, a missile combat crew commander, was found by Minot Police Department the evening of Jan. 30.

"The 91st Missile Wing has lost not only a valuable member of our team, but a member of our family, and he will be missed." said Col. Christopher Ayres, 91st Missile Wing commander. "While we are deeply saddened, our first priority is to ensure someone is taking care of his family, comforting and assisting them in their time of need."

"We extend our sincere condolences to his family and to those who knew Captain Bayless," said Colonel Ayres.

Air Force casualty assistance officers and unit members are assisting Captain Balyless' family.

Captain Bayless entered active duty on May 28, 2003. He arrived to Minot AFB March 27, 2005, and was the chief of training scenarios for his squadron. He was previously assigned to Vandenberg Air Force Base for missile combat crew member training.

The cause of death is still under investigation. 

Wing officials are planning a memorial service for Captain Bayless. More details will be provided as they become available.
