When Senior Airman Tashia Weaver applied to the Rachael Ray show to get a makeover for her mother, she didn't expect to get picked, but the Security Forces turned 91st Missile Wing ground safety assistant did hope to do something nice for her mother.

"It's a surprise to get picked," said Airman Weaver. "I'm excited for her."

Airman Weaver said she applied to the show for a surprise makeover for her mother "because she's had the same hairstyle since the 80's." After filling out the online application and sending some photos of her mother, Airman Weaver got a call that she and her mother, Linda Sedlik had been selected for the show.

"I was shocked that it actually took place," said Mrs. Sedlik. "I was really nervous about it."

Within a few days of being notified, the schedule was been planned and filming was underway. Pre-interviews and video took place at her mother's home on a Sunday and two days later the pair was en route to New York for taping of the makeover.

"I got to go because I nominated my mother," said Airman Weaver. "I'm her moral support."

Back at Minot, Airman Weaver says her office has been supportive and they're excited for her. Lt. Col. David Kelley, 91st MW chief of safety, said it was a great story.

"We're proud of her," said Colonel Kelley. "She works hard, and this is a nice thing she's doing for her mother."

Before departing for New York, Airman Weaver stated her only expectation was that her mom would soon have an updated look.

"I just want her to be happy," she said.

While in New York for filming of the makeover, Airman Weaver said filming day was long and busy, but the show's staff was very helpful. The makeover started about 8:30 a.m., and the filming of the show took place about 2:30 p.m. that day. Mrs. Sedlik was filmed for her "before" shots, and while she was getting her makeover, cameras filmed the change in progress . Airman Weaver wasn't allowed to see her mother during the makeover, and when the show filmed, the cameras focused on Airman Weaver in the front row of the audience as she saw her mother's new look for the first time.

"She looked great!" said Airman Weaver.

Mrs. Sedlick said despite being apprehensive at first, she likes the new look.

"It makes me feel younger and I am going to try and keep it," she said.

Airman Weaver says the experience was positive, meeting Rachael Ray was exciting, and she's happy with her mom's new look. Most importantly, she said, her mother is happy.

"I'm glad she likes the new look," she said.

The episode is expected to air April 2 at 9 a.m. Tune in to see the final results.
