Library Fitness Cycle Throwdown going strong Published April 14, 2009 Minot Air Force Base Public Affairs MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- The base library here is supporting a Library Fitness Cycle Throwdown, which started April 13 and will run through April 17. "Hurlburt Field, Fla., had challenged all Air Force bases to a bike race. Minot AFB immediately accepted this challenge, with 20 other bases following suit," said Lindsey Pettyjohn, base library director. The Fitness Center put two stationary bikes in the library as part of the challenge. Bikers log not only the amount of miles ridden, but the number of books read. "We are permitted to log 12 hours of riding per day for five days," said Pettyjohn. "The base who rides the farthest wins a traveling trophy and bragging rights." Tie breakers will be determined by who reads the most books or listens to the most audio books. Pettyjohn said the purpose is to promote community pride, and remind people to work their body AND their mind. For more information, stop by the base library or call 723-3344.
