What’s in a name? Published April 14, 2009 By 2nd Lt. Kidron B. Vestal Deputy Chief, Minot Air Force Base Public Affairs MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- The base's Integrated Delivery System is the name for 31 Minot-helping agencies. A servicemember is readying to deploy. A dependent needs child care. A family plans a vacation. The IDS purposes to provide a seamless network of useful resources for the men, women and children of Minot Air Force Base. With over 100 areas of support, the mission of the IDS is to encourage actions and programs that are rooted in help and prevention. Most of the activity of the IDS, however, is behind-the-scenes. The Community Action Information Board, the umbrella under which IDS falls, meets quarterly to discuss and implement recommended enhancements for safety and quality of life concerns. The information the IDS brings to the table is instrumental in this dialogue and sharing of resources. "If there's a problem that's presented, we pull the agencies together." Chair of the IDS Board Marilyn Nurnberger, reflects upon the IDS' contribution here, and what many people do not know about the organization. For example, it was an IDS initiative that all the helping agencies assemble for the return of a deployed unit. Instead of having returning servicemembers visit multiple base offices post their return, all the agencies came to them. Of the IDS and the CAIB as a whole, Nurnberger said, "We have the common goal of providing services for all members." The IDS meets monthly, at various locations on base. Every calendar year the leadership of the IDS rotates, with the acting chair moving next to the CAIB lead position. Capt. Kimberly Floyd was the IDS chair for calendar year 2008-2009.
