This year's "Base Cleanup Day" is scheduled for May 1 here. This event requires the participation of all base organizations. The goal of this project is to have a concentrated effort to clean up the base by picking up trash, weeding landscaped areas, organizing compounds, straightening building/lot signage and cleaning up work areas.

Group representatives will inform each squadron of their assigned area. The uniform of the day for base cleanup is BDUs/ABUs. The day will kickoff at 8 a.m. sharp, so Airmen must ensure they are dressed appropriately for the weather (wearing gloves is highly recommended), that they are in their assigned areas before 8 a.m., and they have trash bags in hand.

As always, safety is a priority so be mindful of traffic while approaching roadways and watch for Dakrat holes while crossing fields. No one needs to be hurt in this cleanup effort.

If facility managers or building custodians need to sign out tools, the 5th Civil Engineer Squadron Self-Help store will be open for assistance and can be reached at 723-4794. Tools are limited and will be signed out on a first come, first served basis.

The following is a tentative schedule for the day's events:

· 8 to 11 a.m. Clean up trash in assigned base areas
· 11a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch/Equal Op & Multi-Cultural Fair**
· 1 to 3 p.m. In-House work area cleanup; straighten signage & fences, sweep gutters, clean windows, and organize compounds
· 3 to 4 p.m. Celebrate accomplishment--recommend parties, socials, etc.

**Note: The Equal Opportunity/Multi-Cultural Fair; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jimmy Doolittle Center **

The elementary and middle schools on base will be participating in base cleanup by emphasizing pollution prevention and having students pick up around the school grounds and surrounding fence lines. The building contractors will also be doing their part by cleaning up base housing construction areas and fence lines and removing stray debris from the roadways.

For more information about base cleanup, contact the group/squadron base cleanup POCs, or call 723-4823.

The base's "Housing Cleanup Day" is scheduled for May 2.

Residents on base are encouraged to beautify their yards, clean out garages, and conduct general spring cleaning. Large items (greater than 5 feet in any direction or more than 70 lbs) can only be disposed of on the regular garbage pickup day, however, 5th CES will pick up any sticks, limbs, leaves, or weeds placed in garbage bags and left on curbs during Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

The Housing Self-Help store, which can be reached at 727-6174, will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday if tools or other items, including seed, are needed.

Topsoil will be available in the Garden Plot area (across from the intersection of Missile Avenue and Minute Man Drive) for the housing residents to access.

These cleanup days are just a small part of Team Minot's coordinated effort to improve the appearance and environmental quality of Minot AFB. The rewards of this project will be a beautiful base for all to enjoy and be proud of. Let's see Team Minot show its spirit!
