Indoor Pool Open as Outdoor Pool Undergoes Construction Published July 31, 2009 5th Force Support Squadron MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- With summer in full swing, the Outdoor Pool would normally be full of activity with youngsters and those a bit older enjoying a splashing good time. This year however it is activity of a different type that is taking place at the Outdoor Pool. This spring, a drain at the pool was replaced to become compliant with new safety regulations regarding pool drains. With that task completed, contractors began the process of resurfacing the pool's parking lot but ran into a delay due to the soft sub-soil conditions. A water line break in the new dorm construction project area caused a setback in filling the pool. Then when the pool was finally filled, it quickly began losing water. Through a series of processes, it was determined that the outdoor pool had experienced some major damage including broken jets and pipes from the severe weather conditions this past winter. This damage was beyond the scope of what the civil engineers could repair and required that project to be contracted out. The repair of the Outdoor Pool is being worked diligently by Contracting and Civil Engineers, but unfortunately the Outdoor Pool may not be open this season. Because of the extended delay and extensive repairs necessary to make the Outdoor Pool operational again, the Indoor Pool is open to provide Minot AFB personnel an outlet for plenty of swimming and water fun. The Indoor Pool is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is no charge for the regular hours of operation however some events will have a small fee. Among the events slated for the Indoor Pool is Lemonade Day scheduled for Friday, July 24th from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. This free event is a great way to enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool along with ice cold lemonade and a chance to win door prizes. The Indoor Pool will hold swimming lesson open enrollment on August 3rd at 10 a.m. Swimming lessons will be held for two weeks from August 3rd to 14th. Cost is $30 per person; must be age 5 or older.
