Speed limit dropped on Hwy 83 Published Oct. 27, 2009 By Minot Air Force Base Public Affairs MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- The North Dakota Dept. of Transportation has reduced the speed limit on Highway 83 from 70 mph to 55 mph. Due to unsafe driving conditions around the main gate and the south gate, base officials and the DOTdetermined lowering the speed limit for through traffic along with changes in the lanes is the best option. Officials also installed a sign about a mile south of the Minot (South) gate that will indicate when it is closed. In addition, signs will be put up to mark lanes in order to direct traffic into the turn lanes and to keep through traffic flowing safely. These markings and signage probably will not be installed until Spring 2010. Drivers can expect a greater presence of the Highway Patrol shortly after the speed limit change, which takes effect October 29.
