April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the Minot AFB Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) will be holding various activities and events on base throughout the month of April.

Self Defense Classes will be offered April 7 and 21 at 10:30 a.m., and April 14 and 28 at 6 p.m., at the McAdoo Sports and Fitness Center. Classes are free of charge and open to all active duty and their families. To register, call 723-2145.

Another event sponsored by the SARC office is called "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes". It is a fun, awareness event where men take a stand against sexual violence and prove they are man enough to walk in "her" shoes. Men will wear large-sized, high heeled shoes to represent "her", meaning a victim of sexual violence.

There will also be a sexual assault informational display set up in the Minot AFB medical clinic atrium. The booth will be on display throughout the month of April, so everyone is invited to stop by to learn about sexual assault.

The SARC will also be visiting various dining locations during the lunch hour for the Base Traveling Trivia game. They will be asking sexual assault trivia questions and rewarding participants with prizes.

They will also be distributing "Teal Ribbons" throughout the base and encouraging everyone is encouraged to wear the ribbon to raise awareness.

For more information about any of the above activities or if you have questions about the sexual assault program, contact the SARC at 723-5275 or the 24/7 phone at 626-2463.
