'Biggest Loser' program concludes third successful year Published June 15, 2010 By David Freuer 5th Force Support Squadron MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- The 3rd annual "Biggest Loser" program at the MacAdoo Sports and Fitness Center came to a close here May 28. The event provided participants with a variety of exercise training and healthy living classes. By all indications, this year's edition was a terrific success with 67 people starting the competition in March. Participants were placed in groups based on fitness and activity levels, as well as the result from having their height, weight, and body fat measured. The contest began on March 1. A total of 183.67 lbs. of weight loss was recorded by the participants involved in the program. That amount of weight roughly corresponds to the average weight of an adult male (189.8 lbs.) in the United States according to the National Center for Health Statistics. The "Biggest Loser" competition was broken down into male and female categories. The overall male winner was Scott Mabrey, who tallied a 9.9 percent body fat loss and 29 total pounds of weight. He was awarded a $200 gift certificate from Val's Cyclery in Minot for his efforts. Elise Jones claimed the top spot in the female category with 6.4 percent body fat loss and 13 total pounds of weight. She received a $200 gift certificate from Knowles Jewelry in Minot for winning the female category. The competition also awarded getaway packages to Four Bears Casino and Lodge in New Town, N.D., each month for the man and woman with the most weight/body fat loss. Winners included: Troy Goodman and Cynthia Hopwood for March, Daniel Barnes and Stephanie Vazquez in April, and Scott Mabrey and Serena Lunsford for May. The first 50 participants who registered received a "Biggest Loser" T-Shirt sponsored by North Country Sportswear. The "Biggest Loser" program was sponsored in part by 4 Bears Casino and Lodge, Knowles Jewelry, Val's Cyclery, and North Country Sportswear.
