When looking for a uniquely rural and family-friendly fall activity, Air Force Global Strike Command service members and families stationed at Minot can now head down to the Berry Acres corn maze just minutes from the base to enjoy an afternoon of puzzling and colorful adventures.

The eight-acre maze, located three miles west of Broadway on 4th Ave NW, is designed to be both challenging and fun for nearly all ages.

"This is a good way to spend a Fall day," said Calvin Berry, owner of the farm and designer of the maze. "It's cheap entertainment."

Berry said he was inspired to create Minot's first corn maze because he wanted to provide something for people to do.

"For a month and a half, we have this opportunity to get out and enjoy something different," Berry said.

He said he hopes base members take the opportunity to get a taste of the rural landscape that surrounds Minot and the base.

"I know many people in the area come from bigger cities and don't get to experience country life," Berry said. "In addition to the maze, we have fall decorations, vegetables, pumpkins and locally made baked goods here."

Berry said he's already had positive feedback about the maze and the turnout has been good so far. So much that he already has plans to expand the maze next year.

The maze's season is expected to run through the Halloween weekend. It will host a variety of special events including a costume day, flashlight night as well as a haunted maze to provide some activity choices.

Allie, a local 12-year-old girl, made it through the maze with her two siblings in approximately 45 minutes on a quiet afternoon and said it was challenging and she wants to try it at night.

"I like trying to figure out the quickest way to the exit," she said. "This was bigger than it looked, and it was harder than I thought it would be."

She said she also liked trying to figure out what part of the design she was in.

"I remember being in the antlers," Allie said.

The farm also has a straw maze for the younger maze enthusiasts, hay bales of fun for kids to climb in, and an ATV-pulled train.

"We hope people come out and try it," said Berry. "There are plenty of opportunities to take some nice family photos and enjoy Fall afternoons in Minot."
