Summer time activities Published June 14, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Jessica Kassimer Minot Air Force Base Public Health MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- With summer time approaching quickly, Air Force Global Strike Command's Public Health team is here to provide Team Minot Airmen and their families with some summertime rules to help keep everyone safe and healthy. Before going outside, remember to use bug spray containing DEET. The mosquitoes and ticks are out and ready to bite. DEET is the best way to prevent excessive insect bites. When playing with pets, make sure to wash hands after picking up their droppings. Turn the bag inside out, pick it up and turn the bag back outside in. Also, because grilling season is here, be sure to follow proper food handling procedures. Be sure to cook food thoroughly, wash hands before and after preparing food and to not use the same utensils for meat as used for vegetables. For more information on food safety, please visit http://www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/prevention.html. Also, when swimming in public pools, make sure to shower before and after going into the pool. Ensure diapered children wear the swimmers when using the pool as well. Drink plenty of water during the day to prevent dehydration. If thirsty, the body is already dehydrated. If one becomes ill, please stay home. Do not go out to the office or be around other people until feeling better. As always, please wash hands when needed; after using the restroom, before and after cooking, etc. Please call Public Health at 723-5204 for more information. Have a fun and safe summer!
