Emergency center closes, offers thanks Published Sept. 13, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Jessica McConnell Minot Air Force Base Public Affairs MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- The installation commander deactivated the Emergency Family Assistance Control Center here Aug. 22 after the demand for emergency services significantly decreased. "The emergency has ended, but long-term assistance may still be needed by those affected," said Master Sgt. Carisa Smith, 5th FSS NCO. "All initial arrangements have been made for those affected, so our focus has shifted to long-term assistance. We are still available to provide information, make referrals and provide support related to the flood." The center acted as a liaison to those willing to volunteer and those in need of help. The center advertised those base community members who had extra housing space, extra storage room, food, or willing to lend a hand in sandbagging and other volunteer efforts. Now that the flood has come and gone, most flood victims are more focused on recovering and getting back to normalcy. The A&FRC has resumed normal operations, which are Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and will continue to provide long-term flood recovery assistance. The E-FACC would not have been able to sustain 24/7 operations without the many volunteers who donated their time and numerous resources. The A&FRC extends a huge thank you to those who volunteered time and provided donations. The following list identifies volunteers that the A&FRC was able to identify through sign-in logs. For those not listed, the staff thanks you as well. To view the list of volunteers, click here. For more information, please contact the A&FRC at 723-3950.
