An Airman from the 5th Communications Squadron was recently awarded a MAJCOM level award for her excellence in ensuring accurate, timely and effective communication operations to personnel here.

Capt. Megan Belger, 5th CS operations flight commander, was named Air Force Global Strike Command's Information Dominance Air Force Cyberspace Operations Outstanding Company Grade Officer of the Year.

"I know full well that the accolades described in my award speak directly to the great and numerous accomplishments made by the Airmen whom I get the privilege to lead every day," said Belger.

Belger said she was surprised that she was the only one recognized in her squadron.

"Minot underwent a great amount of stress with this year's flooding and resulting manning issues," said Belger. "I was so proud that our team really pulled through to provide the highest quality and most efficient work possible through this stressful time, a roadblock that no other AFGSC base had to endure."

The captain said she felt the communications comm technicians working in the airfield, on the network floor and within the WSA deserved all the credit for the award because it represents the combination of their long hours and expert efforts.

"My favorite part of the job is seeing amazing dedication our technicians give to the job and the Air Force," said Belger. "It has been my pleasure to work with our team to rebuild training and regulations from the ground up to satisfy mission requirements."

Getting to see the appreciation on her technicians' faces' whenever they get something done to improve their manning situations and work load has been one of her most memorable moments while working here at Minot AFB.

"You can't imagine how important it is for me to be able to give them something in return for their countless hours of service--it unfortunately doesn't happen enough," said Belger.

She explained in a communications environment, building experienced cyber warriors is one of the greatest assets the organization can have. With many recent changes to their career fields and migration of commands, she has been working with her team to rebuild training and regulations from the ground up to satisfy mission requirements.

The captain has often been told that being an operations flight commander is one of the hardest and most rewarding positions a CGO can hope to hold. She is challenged every day to keep up with the high-paced environment at Minot AFB, and it's both a grueling and worthy experience.

"These accolades continue to illustrate to our base customers and leaders the high caliber of support and care they receive from the 5th CS," said Belger.
