The comptroller squadron received the special acts and services award for their hard work and dedication, not only to the base mission, but for their efforts during the historic 2011 Souris River flooding. The 5th CPTS actively engaged in flood relief and recovery efforts related to three FEMA disaster declarations and were staff partners in crafting the 5th Bomb Wing commander's limited evacuation order for dependent evacuation on June 29. The squadron also authored and gained approval for a Joint Federal Travel Regulation change, which authorized up to 60 days of Temporary Lodging Expenses to ensure Minot Airmen and their families were taken care of while displaced. The squadron's work during the disaster demonstrated a tremendous show of support to the local community through the Defense Support to Civilian Authorities process. This squadron was an integral part of disaster relief and recovery operations. The squadron earned the AFGSC Financial Services Offices of the Year during the award period of Oct. 1 to Sept. 30. Included in the squadron's long list of financial accomplishments includes updating 510 lines of accounting with 100 percent validation of records for year-end civilian pay processing. The squadron also reserved up to $4.7 million in funds for more than 400 dependent evacuation orders. Also during the base's deployment operations, the squadron assisted more than 400 Guam deployment returnees, provided a mass briefing to reduce errors to zero, and ensured a payment of up to $2.1 million paid to travelers. The squadron's financial services ensured Airmen and their families were taken care of, whether they were affected by the flood or not. The squadron was also named the Comptroller Organization of the Year for 2011. Included in their accomplishments was safeguarding the 5th BW mission by obtaining an increase of $200,000 for security forces manning to ensure the base's priority assets remained safe and secure. The squadron also partnered with the 5th Logistics Readiness Squadron to provide household goods moves for flood evacuees, which resulted in more than 190 evacuated Airmen and their families receiving support.
