ROADS REOPONED, LAUNCH FACILITY DEEMED SAFE Published July 10, 2012 By MINOT AIR FORCE BASE OFFICE OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS MINOT AIR FORCE BASE OFFICE OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- During routine maintenance at a launch facility, remote sensors detected a possible hazardous material present. However, it was determined later that the launch facility's sensors incorrectly detected a potential chemical hazard. Minot AFB personnel immediately responded on the scene to investigate the situation. The launch facility is now deemed safe and secure. A 600 feet restrictive zone was established surrounding the launch facility. Public Safety is a top priority and base and local officials took extra precautions to ensure hazardous materials were not present. North Dakota state officials initially closed County Road 37 and 35th street in nearby Parshall county to assist on-site Minot Air Force Base personnel investigate the issue at the launch facility. Those roads have been reopened by state officials. Minot AFB does not have jurisdiction to open or close roads and state highways in North Dakota.
