MAFB wins AFGSC's Installation Excellence Award Published Oct. 4, 2012 Minot Air Force Base Public Affairs MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Minot Air Force Base was recently named Air Force Global Strike Command's winner for the 2013 Commander-in-Chief's Installation Excellence Award. Col. James C. Dawkins, 5th Bomb Wing commander, announced the accomplishment to the base and praised both of Minot's wings on the accomplishment. "Warbirds and Rough Riders. Congratulations on winning AFGSC's Installation Excellence Award," said Colonel Dawkins. "Once again AFGSC has recognized the hard work and dedication the men and women of Minot put forth every day." "Minot Airmen should be proud that they get to represent AFGSC at the Air Force level," added Colonel Dawkins. "I know Minot will shine in the end." Minot AFB will now go on to compete against other major command winners at the Air Force level for the $1 million dollar incentive award to invest in the Airmen's quality-of-life. To compete for the award, a detailed report was submitted by each base to their MAJCOM. From these submissions, two finalists were selected. From these two, a winner was chosen to compete against the other MAJCOM's for the top prize. The CINC IE award was created in 1984. It recognizes the efforts of the people who operate and maintain DoD installations and who have done the best with their resources to support the mission. The award encourages environments that promote innovative and creative ways of enhancing base-level services, facilities and quality-of-life. A variety of improvements and innovations were included in Minot's multi-page awards package. Units from both wings submitted their outstanding accomplishments for the awards package. From airfield and mission operations, to communications and family support, the base had much to boast about. Competing for a prestigious award like the CINC IE gives other bases in the Air Force a chance to see the hard work Minot AFB does on a day-to-day basis, and offers a chance to let the Air Force know Minot lives up to its motto... "Only the Best Come North."
