The University of North Dakota Northern Plains Children's Advocacy Center is presenting their 3rd Annual Champagne and Ice Gala.

The UND NPCAC is an accredited program under the National Children's Alliance in Minot, which provides specialized services to children and families who have experienced the trauma of child sexual abuse. The NCA established the model of children's advocacy centers throughout the United States. The NCA children's advocacy center model takes a multidisciplinary team approach and is comprised of professionals who are involved in child abuse investigations.

Before the UND NPCAC began providing services, many families in and around our community dealing with the trauma of child sexual abuse were forced to seek specialized help in either Bismarck or Fargo. Having the UND NPCAC in Minot has made it possible for children and families from in and around the community to be served more efficiently and in familiar surroundings. The UND NPCAC provides comprehensive services in northwest and north central North Dakota, including Minot Air Force Base, Turtle Mountain Tribe Reservation and Fort Berthold Reservation. These services include forensic interviews, forensic medical exams, family support and follow-up services, trauma therapy, mental health crisis intervention, specialized therapy, information and referral, community education and child abuse prevention presentations.

Since the UND NPCAC beginning, their numbers have increased: in 2009 they provided services to 103 individuals; in 2010 they provided services to 142 individuals; in 2011 they provided services to 185 individuals; and so far in 2012 they have provided services to 190 individuals.

The family is not responsible for any out-of-pocket expenses for any of the services provided by the UND NPCAC. UND NPCAC is solely funded from private foundation grants, community grants, third party reimbursements, fundraisers and community donations.

The Gala is an annual fundraiser to raise community awareness and funds for the UND NPCAC. The Gala will take place at the Parker Suites Center, 21 1st Ave SE, Minot, N.D., on Saturday, Dec. 15 starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are priced at $25, which includes admittance, hors d'oeuvres, desserts and champagne. There will be a silent and a live auction. Special diamonds will be featured in both auctions. The Gala also is raffling a special diamond setting. Cocktail attire is suggested. A cash bar including non-alcoholic beverages will also be available. Join us for fun, music, mingling and more.
