Airmen and their families can once again enjoy ice skating here at Minot Air Force Base thanks to the Base Fire Department.

Three ice skating rinks will be available this weekend for the enjoyment of the community at the following locations.
  1. Just off Missile Ave 200, right hand side of the street at the corner of Dakota Court and Eagle Way.
  2.  Dakota Elementary School (off of G Street).
  3.  Behind the houses on Indian Rock Circle (directly across from the commissary).
The Fire Department worked Nov. 27-28 to fill the locations with water to make rinks available by the first of December.

It is important for users to police the areas themselves and keep locations free of trash to make for a more enjoyable time and to ensure future support.

The Fire Department will add water to the ice as needed.

Individuals skating will do so at their own risk. The 5th Bomb Wing Safety Office recommends the following ice skating tips:
  • Wear skates that fit comfortably and provide enough ankle support to keep you on your feet.
  • Have the blades professionally sharpened at the beginning of each season.
  • Skate only on specially prepared skating areas where you are sure the ice is strong enough to withstand your weight.
  • Always check for cracks, holes and other debris.
  • Before setting out on your skating expedition, learn basic skating skills, such as how to stop and fall safely.
  • Wear warm clothing and rest when you become tired or cold.
  • Never skate alone.
Happy Skating!
