The Minot Air Force Base library is celebrating National Library Week by hosting a free interactive game for Airmen and their families, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., today.

National library week occurs the second week of April to commemorate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians.

To celebrate the contributions, the base library staff invites Team Minot to participate in the event. The game is recommended for adults and teens, but it is open to all ages.

“During the game you will travel back in time to the Library of Alexandria in 3rd century B.C.,” said Julie Reiten, 5th Force Support Squadron supervisory librarian. “You will follow clues and solve puzzles in order to make your way back to modern times.”

Throughout the adventure players visit various historical places.

“There is the Bodleian Library, which is one University of Oxford’s oldest libraries, the Boston Athenaeum and a medieval ministry,” Reiten said.

According to Reiten, the event was inspired by an escape room and turned into an adventure where you escape from the past while also learning about the history of many different libraries.

“One thing that sets this library apart from others is that we make our own games,” said Christina Huber, 5th FSS Library technician. “We love to make every event a unique experience.”

The entire game takes an average of 30 - 45 minutes and prizes are awarded after completion.

If you wish to participate visit the library between 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., today.
