SSgt Richard Hirtle, 5th Maintenance Group, has epitomized the 5th Bomb Wing commander’s vision of mission ownership. SSgt Hirtle was instrumental in the 5 BW Nuclear Operations Readiness Inspection “Excellent” rating by providing key decision making information to 5 BW leadership for all command and control functions. During the NORI, he worked tirelessly to facilitate time sensitive tracking of controlled nuclear information, and revamped the 2408/2409 forms used to track and articulate every critical step of the aircraft maintenance process. He singlehandedly reformatted a broken data distribution product, and streamlined the information transfer process to provide the Crisis Action Team members with timely data and a visual representation of the nuclear generation. Furthermore, SSgt Hirtle was hand-selected to implement this product while serving as the 5 MXG’s Maintenance Operations Center’s representative in the Command Post. These actions directly led to his nomination to the 5 BW as an Air Force Global Strike Command/Inspector General Superior Performer. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Lauren Pitts)
