B-52 undergoes synthetic-fuel cold weather testing
MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Robert Aguilar, B-52 project manager from Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., adjusts a cord on the engine of a B-52H Stratofortress Jan 19. The cord is attached to an instrument control panel which will measure the differences in engine performance between the use of JP-8 fuel, which the B-52 is accustom to, verses the new Fischer-Tropsch, a synthetic fuel. The testing of synthetic fuel in cold weather is the last step in the certification process to help reduce Air Force dependence on imported fuel. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Joe Rivera)
